Digital Bridges expand into APAC wireless market

Edinburgh, Scotland & Tokyo, Japan. July 17th 2001. Digital Bridges Ltd., the UK based pioneer of wireless entertainment services today announced several significant developments made by its new Asia/Pacific (APAC) offices, including wireless distribution for the crucial Japanese territory, deals with several mobile network operators and developer agreements, which will see games created by Asian developers being published worldwide by Digital Bridges through its network of over 20 network operators.

Digital Bridges APAC offices were established in March 2001, with the initial offices based in Tokyo. Expansion into both Hong Kong and Singapore is expected within the next few months. Mr Kristan Rivers has been appointed Vice President & General Manager for the entire APAC region. Mr Don Lim, who is based in Seoul, South Korea and is responsible for all business development issues within this territory, supports him.

Mr Rivers, said, The Asian markets are undoubtedly the most advanced in the world. For example, wireless entertainment services have been available for over two years in Japan. Digital Bridges offers something entirely new to this region. For the first time, users in Asia will be able to enjoy games and entertainment created by the best developers from Europe and the USA. Our UNITY technology also offers the unique ability for Asian users to compete against players on other Wirelessgames carriers around the world.

Digital Bridges also announced that their UNITY technology, the de facto standard for game development and delivery, incorporates support for all existing and forthcoming standards including cHTML, MML and J2ME, within its next release, allowing developers to create games which will work across all handsets, networks and protocols worldwide.

Distribution
Digital Bridges also announced an agreement with Atrativa Inc., to provide distribution for its services throughout Japan. This will allow Digital Bridges to offer its hugely successful range of content, created by some of the most highly regarded entertainment companies in the world, to the sophisticated Japanese audience.

Network Customers
Digital Bridges has signed agreements to provide its award winning Wirelessgames channel to a number of carriers including SingTel in Singapore and Telstra in Australia. The carriers will be able to offer their subscribers a selection of games created by some of the most highly respected developers, publishers and media companies worldwide.

Mr Hui Weng Cheong, Vice President of Consumer Products for SingTel Mobile said, SingTel Mobile is pleased to partner Digital Bridges to include wireless gaming content in e-ideas, our WAP portal. Wireless entertainment such as mobile gaming acts as a good time-filling activity. We believe that our 1.5 million-plus mobile customers will find it very appealing.

Games Developers
Digital Bridges has now signed agreements with a number of leading developers throughout the APAC region to create games for both the current generation of wireless technologies as well as games for the Java system. The first Asian developer to join Digital Bridges worldwide development community is Korean developer EXEMobile.

Mr Ken Kang, CEO of EXEMobile, said, The Korean mobile Internet market is just as advanced as that in Japan. We are already having success here. Digital Bridges will allow us to access an enormous global market. With EXEMobile providing next generation games and Digital Bridges publishing them around the world, we have created a synergy which will boost the whole mobile entertainment industry.

Dr Kevin Bradshaw, CEO and founder of Digital Bridges, commented, The Asian market is proof of the enormous potential of the wireless entertainment market. Huge numbers of players regularly use their phones to enjoy wireless entertainment.
