Anny Way WAP Gateway – Security for Mobile Banking

Dortmund/Germany, 19. March 2001.
The Anny Way WAP Gateway is awarded the "Trusted WAP Gateway" certificate by the German TÜV Informationstechnik GmbH (TÜViT). The WAP Gateway from MATERNA Information & Communications thus becomes the first gateway anywhere in the world to fulfil TÜViTs strict security requirements. The Anny Way WAP Gateway guarantees a fully-protected communication channel between the mobile handset and the back-end system.

For applications such as mobile banking and mobile share trading, a reliable and secure method of transmitting data is essential. With its positive assessment, TÜViT confirms the high security standards of the Anny Way WAP Gateway and its suitability for applications involving the transmission of sensitive data.

Security - the first commandment
In order that data can be transmitted securely and reliably yet remain constantly available, MATERNA uses specially developed security tools such as logging, password authorisation and monitoring tools in its Anny Way WAP Gateway. The Gateway, a UNIX application, has fulfilled the requirements of TÜViT with its technical and organisational security measures. The conversion of protocols received special attention. The translation of WTLS into HTTPS/SSL is carried out in Gateway whereby the data cannot be saved or read without authorisation.
The Anny Way WAP Gateway is the platform for the WAP services from network operators and companies. Among others, these services include WAP portals and mobile messaging services as well as mobile banking and mobile commerce applications. Solutions from MATERNA are already being used by various national and international network operators such as Mobilkom in Austria and VIAG Interkom in Germany.

WAP push pushes WAP
As one of the first gateways the Anny Way WAP gateway is WAP 1.2 enabled. With the new feature WAP push MATERNA offers mobile phone customers the opportunity to subscribe to WAP services for the first time. In this way, companies or service providers can provide their customers with personalised WAP services to which the mobile phone user can react directly. MATERNA is demonstrating an e-mail notification system using WAP push at CeBIT. The message appears as an SMS with the Re. entry of the e-mail. The receiver can now decide whether he wants to read the whole message. The electronic letter can be processed in a variety of ways with a simple click. Different international network operators are testing already the new WAP push services by MATERNA.
