CASIO licenses EZOS EzWAP

EZOS supplies WAP browser software to the Vodafone Message-Cam, the first major product of the alliance between Japans Casio and UK-based Vodafone, which was announced back in February.

BRUSSELS, Belgium - December 22, 2000 - EZOS, a service provider active in the field of the mobile I.T. business, is proud to announce the successful adaptation of its platform-independent WAP micro browser to the Vodafone Message-Cam, a mobile, multimedia palm-top device with an in-built digital camera that was designed exclusively for Vodafone by Casio. This device includes a colour, touch-sensitive screen; sound and photo archives; a voice recorder; a WAP browser and other standard organizer features.

As a provider of services and solutions for mobile technologies, EZOS is exploring innovative ways of working closely with equipment manufacturers. "Our aim is to encourage wider dissemination of WAP technology which is currently only available for a very limited number of devices. We want to throw wide open the doors into the WAP universe to any and every platform in order to provide access to, and facilitate the development of, services using this protocol", explains Jean-Claude Streel, Business Development Manager at EZOS.

In addition to licensing the browser software, EZOS also developed the SMS and phone book replication services for the Vodafone Message-Cam. It was a real challenge for our team to apply our technology to the very first device of its kind in the world, states Benoit Huon - Research & Development Manager at EZOS. Another stimulating challenge was the short time period between our initial discussions with Casio in July 2000 and product availability in November 2000, he adds.

Earlier this year, EZOS developed EzWAP 1.0, the first platform-independent WAP micro browser that enables a variety of computing systems to access the mobile Internet environment, such as: mobile devices (Pocket PC, Handheld PC 2000, PC companions), embedded systems and PCs running Microsoft Windows 95/98, Windows NT, Windows 2000 or Windows CE. Thanks to its modular design, EzWAP can be integrated into virtually any appliance, regardless of its operating system and only requires a minimum amount of software adaptation to be made.
