AU-SYSTEM TO DELIVER WAP BROWSER TO VOLVO TECHNOLOGICAL DEVELOPMENT

Stockholm, Sweden - October 18, 2000 - Volvo Technological Development has signed a licence agreement with AU-System for the delivery of WAP browser software. The agreement means that the department for Transport and Telematics Services will test in which way WAP can be integrated with the communication equipment in Volvos vehicles.

The fact that Volvo Technological Development is testing how WAP technology can be used in its vehicles is proof that the technology has possibilities outside the realm of mobile telephony, says Tomas Franzn, President & CEO at AU-System. WAP can be used for several possible vehicle services and, together with other players, we will now be able to demonstrate some future areas of use.

Volvos tests with WAP in cars form part of the EU collaboration ITS WAP (Intelligent Transport Systems over Wireless Application Protocol). Volvo participates in the international working group of industry representatives, in which Telia and Ericsson also take part. The test period will run up to the end of 2001.
