Sheffield Dialogue today announced the launch of the worlds first m-commerce solution, which enables WAP (Wireless Access Protocol) sites to automatically recognise the telephone numbers of incoming calls and make a reverse charge for services directly onto the subscribers phone bill. The technology went live today on one of the UKs biggest WAP sites mobilebone.com where visitors are charged 1 for downloading a choice of over 100 ringtones.

Converging calling line identity and reverse charge technology over a mobile network streamlines m-commerce, removing the need for callers to key in personal details and incorporating the phone bill as a method of payment.

WAP needs killer applications to really take off, email was the first, now with this technology we have also opened it up to the world of m-commerce, said Hugh Spear, managing director, Dialogue Communications. It is particularly suited to low-value or micro-transactions where there is consumer resistance to using credit cards.

Mobilebone.com is a WAP information and entertainment site, which offers a range of services including sports results, travel information, quizzes, jokes and hot gossip. The most popular section, which receives over 4000 hits a day, allows visitors to download over 100 different ringtones for their mobile phone. The tune is sent digitally over the mobile network using the SMS (Short Massaging Service) protocol.

Sheffield-based Dialogue Communications is a world leader in the development and implementation of mobile data and Internet messaging solutions. The companys technology bridges the gap between the fixed and mobile worlds delivering carrier class platforms and services to both service provider and enterprise customers around the globe.
