Software Vendor MATERNA Introduces WAP Banking at Local Savings Bank

Dortmund, July 27, 2000. Mobile Banking

Carrying out mobile banking transactions is an increasingly important feature for the mobile phone community. The Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) is an open and vendor-independent standard for the transmission and processing of Internet content using mobile devices. Savings Bank Dortmund is one of the first financial institution in Germany to introduce this innovative und comprehensive WAP service to all its customers in collaboration with the software company MATERNA Information & Communications. The service is based on the WAP services offered by MATERNA.
As of July 26, 2000, customers of Savings Bank Dortmund can request account balances and transaction statements as well as view the financial status of all accounts and deposits. In addition, transfers and payments can be made along with WAP Brokerage services. The Savings Bank customers can request stock exchange indices and individual stock values with charts as well as buy and sell securities. Even PIN and TAN administration takes place using the WAP-capable phone. Mobile phones can now be used as an active ordering medium and are no longer restricted to pure information.
The prerequisite for using this future-oriented service from Savings Bank Dortmund is a WAP-capable phone. The financial institute has chosen the Anny Way WAP Gateway by MATERNA to operate the services. Using the WAP Gateway, the entire technical WAP infrastructure is available to Savings Bank Dortmund. The gateway allows the bank application to be connected to the mobile phone network. MATERNA operates the WAP service for Savings Bank Dortmund in its own computer center and is connected to the bank application via an Internet interface. Data transmission from the WAP Gateway to Savings Bank Dortmund takes place over a secure connection (using SSL 3.0) with 128 bit encryption.
Access to the WAP application takes place using the PIN and TAN numbers entered by the customer. The WTLS (Wireless Transport Layer Security) protocol guarentees security for the Savings Bank customers. WTLS ensures that data are protected during transmission between the mobile device and the Anny Way WAP Gateway.

The Anny Way WAP Gateway
With the Anny Way WAP Gateway, MATERNA offers the complete WAP infrastructure for network operators and companies, plus applications like WAP brokerage, WAP infotainment, WAP portals, etc. In addition to the WAP connection itself, the Gateway provides the basis for a multitude of other value-added services, all of which can be offered as "customized solutions" to meet the needs of the individual customer.
