(September 7, 1999) - Entra Data AB is the first company within the area of IT for banking and finance to be awarded a membership in WAP Forum.

Entra is in co-operation with TietoEnator and Sonera in Finland developing a secure, mobile banking service application for Leonia Bank, the second largest bank in Finland. The service is built on WAP and a security solution based on PKI (Public Key Infrastructure).

As a separate project, Entra Wireless Solutions (EWS) will in short announce mobile Internet-services based on WAP, as yet another interface to Entra's solutions, e.g. bank, fund and card systems. Examples of these services are banking services, securities trading and different kinds of information services.

The market for mobile communications is expected to grow dramatically during the years to come. The number of mobile telephone users is expected to grow accordingly, from 340 million to almost 1 billion mobile telephone users within 3-5 years. At least 50% of these are expected to have a WAP-device and to be connected to the Internet.

WAP Forum is an international association started by leading telecom operators and manufacturers in order to establish an independent global standard for wireless communications. The association has more than 190 members from all over the world, e.g. Ericsson, Nokia, Motorola, AT& T Wireless Services, Intel Corporation, IBM, Merita Bank, Visa International and Razorfish. "With this membership we ensure being in the forefront of development and further securing our competence in the area", says Ulf Zakariasson, Managing Director of EWS.
